It didn’t take long for chrome to go from comic covers to trading cards. 1996 Wildstorm Spawm Chromium was far from the first set to go with the metallic treatment, but here there’s definitely a connection here. It also makes for a great way to showcase some already striking artwork in a different light.
1996 Wildstorm Spawn Chromium Checklist Details
The 99-card base set is broken down into several thematic sections. The largest comes with the front half, recreating the covers from the first 50 issues of Spawn, this time smaller and in chrome. Other sections look at other characters in the comic, good and bad, its setting and Spawn himself.
The art is the most striking element. Even if it’s familiar to those who read the comic (who are likely also those chasing the cards), the different medium and metallic look add some freshness.
1996 Wildstorm Spawn Chromium has a couple of inserts, both of which use lenticular technology that flips through multiple images.
Spawn Motion has nine cards with one landing every six packs. Spawn Morph is tougher at 1:24 packs. However, there’s only one card so it’s actually more plentiful than copies of individual Motion cards.
