1995 Comic Images Shi All-Chromium is a distinctly 1990s set. Coming out at a time when chrome was still a novelty, the technology is combined with a comic character that time seems to have left behind. Although it may not be as relevant as it once was, that shouldn’t take away from the set’s overall beauty.
1995 Comic Images Shi All-Chromium Checklist Details
The set centers on the Shi comic character created by William Tucci. She’s a Japanese-American warrior trained in martial arts and battles herself internally over her conflicting cultural backgrounds. Those aren’t her only battles. Swords and soldiers come into play as well.
Shi was a big indie book during an era where pin-up-style characters were entering the mainstream. That sensibility certainly comes into play with the artwork in much of this set.
The main base set has 90 cards. Much of it has comic action with a handful of cards going together to form puzzles. Towards the end of the 1995 Comic Images Shi All-Chromium checklist are cards with art from other artists including Jim Lee, Amanda Conner, Jimmy Palmiotti and Jeff Smith.
Tucci signed 500 cards for the product. However, knowing which are copies included in packs is tough as these are standard base cards with no additional markings.
Other inserts include six MagnaChrome cards that recreate comic covers, three New Crusade and a Medallion card. Like Medallion cards in other sets like 1994 Conan All Chromium II, it has a serial number but the exact print run it’s numbered to isn’t mention.
With a seemingly generous production run, 1995 Comic Images Shi All-Chromium remains affordable, including unopened boxes, which can still be found fairly easily.
