2024-25 Panini Prizm Black Basketball Manga inserts are a follow-up of sorts to the SSP cards found in the season’s main Prizm set. The art style is similar but this time around things are a lot more lively. Rather than simply presenting players in the Japanese comic style, there’s more over-the-top action and personality. It’s essentially like the 2024 Panini Prizm Football Manga cards and they’re a lot more memorable for it.
The 15-card 2024-25 Panini Prizm Black Basketball Manga checklist consists entirely of active superstars. Highlights include LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Nikola Jokic, Luka Doncic and Victor Wembanyama. Unlike a lot of Panini’s chase sets, rookies and retired legends are nowhere to be found.
What makes these stand out is the comic art. It’s out there, but it’s fun. Most players are given literal interpretations of their nicknames or something connected to their team name. So Wembanyama, aka The Martian, is chilling in a UFO. Chef Curry is cooking up some magic. Ja Morant is ready to slam in a bear suit all the while holding a honey pot. Yes, it’s weird, and that’s the point.
Manga pack odds were not released. The card maker was up front that they’re SSP inserts, though, along with Prizmania, Color Blast, Color Blast Duals, and Groovy. That said, they do appear to be extremely rare with few copies available even immediately after Prizm Black’s release.
