1988 Comic Images Wolverine is the third of four releases in a two-year span from the card maker to delve into the world of Marvel. Although each has a distinct theme, this one is the most specific as it focuses on just one character. Other heroes and villains are in the set, too, but everything revolves around the mysterious mutant from Canada.
The checklist isn’t a big one, consisting of just 50 cards plus a header card. It’s all full-color comic art including many of Wolverine’s key moments and battles up to that point.
As far as being informational or enlightening, there’s some information. However, it comes in the form of a trivia question that makes up the back copy on every card.
Although the other three Marvel sets in Comic Images’ run note a series number on the back, this one does not. It is however mentioned on the product’s packaging.
Like the 1987 Marvel Universe and Colossal Conflicts sets that came before it, boxes have 50 packs, each with four cards and a sticker from separate collections.
1988 Comic Images Wolverine isn’t an overly common product to find. It’s out there, but you may have to do some digging to find a specific card.
While this set doesn’t have the first Wolverine trading cards, they do rank among the earliest.
Comic Images would revisit the popular character again in 1991 with Wolverine From Then ‘Til Now.
