The 1989 Comic Images Mike Zeck Collection puts the spotlight on the legendary artist. Highlighting some of his iconic Marvel work from the decade, it’s not a particularly complex set but it is a stunning one from a visual standpoint. From a collectible standpoint, also notable as there’s not a lot of it floating around with many seemingly opting instead for property-based sets from the Marvel Universe.
The set follows a standard formula used by Comic Images during this period. Boxes have 50 packs, each with five cards. The checklist itself is kept small with just 45 base cards and one blank-backed header card, which was in every pack.
Fronts are basic with a white border and a Zeck illustration taken from one of the comics he worked on. While there are a few titles and stories represented, Secret Wars and the classic Kraven’s Last Hunt story from Spider-Man are prominent.
Backs have a puzzle piece but no text. Two different puzzles are used in this set.
