1990 Comic Images Jim Lee trading cards offer up a simple tribute to one of the most famous and influential comic artists to emerge in the 1980s and into one of the industry’s biggest boom periods. Following a similar pattern as other artist- and character-centric sets from Comic Images at the time, the approach is simple and void of any frills.
The main set has just 45 cards, all with art from Lee’s Marvel run up to that point. Wolverine and other X-Men characters are prominent on most of the cards. The Punisher, Hulk and members of Alpha Flight are among the others who can also be found.
Art is surrounded by a white border and edgy black inner frame. Rather than commentary, context or other info, backs go together to form a black and white puzzle.
Joining the base set is a single header card that is found in every pack.
Like a lot of Comic Images Marvel trading card sets from this period, cards are actually somewhat tough to find today, particularly when it comes to unopened boxes.
A follow-up Jim Lee release followed in 1991.
