1992 Comic Images Spider-Man: The McFarlane Era trading cards take a look at one of the most revered runs of Marvel’s Modern Era. It’s not a particularly deep set but it’s one that nails its focus — giving honor to a comics master and doing so with one of the medium’s most famous characters.
Spanning 90 cards, the set offers a trading card recap of the first 16 issues of Spider-Man, the mega-hit comic drawn and written by Todd McFarlane. The set really is a showcase for the comic creator. Cards feature full-bleed comic artwork on the front. The only text is McFarlane’s signature.

Besides the base set, the only other cards in 1992 Comic Images Spider-Man: The McFarlane Era are six Prisms inserts. Landing 1:16 packs, or about three per box, these have the same full-bleed design. However, they have patterned stock similar to more recent Topps Atomic Refractors or Panini’s Cracked Ice cards.
The set arrived at a time when there was no shortage of comic-themed trading cards. This includes Impel’s continuing Marvel Universe run. But while that juggernaut line took a broader Marvel approach, Comic Images was going with more defined niche sets like this.
It’s not a particularly rare set but values have grown over the years, particularly unopened boxes.
