1993 Topps Street Fighter II Checklist and Trading Cards Details

On the surface, 1993 Topps Street Fighter II trading cards don’t seem overly significant. However, decades later, the video game they’re based on continues to be recognized as one of the most influential of all-time. There’s also the fact that this is not an easy set to find, which certainly adds to its appeal (and value) today.

Arriving at a time that trading cards were starting to transition into more chase-focused, there’s a bit of that here. But for the most part, it follows the ’80s tradition of Topps entertainment sets by being mostly base cards and stickers.

1993 Topps Street Fighter II Trading Cards Details

The main set totals 88 cards. The first half use basic screen grabs from the game on the front, essentially showcasing moves and characters but not a lot of background. Card backs on these have in-game commentary that doubles as basic game tips.

Following these are a dozen character cards that delve into the fighters’ backstories. Then it’s 12 statistics cards that give vital info like where fighters are from, age, their size and even a quote.

Some of the game’s signature fighting moves take up another 16 spots on the 1993 Topps Street Fighter II checklist. While these describe what’s going on, they don’t actually give the button combinations to pull them off.

The base set rounds out with four location cards.

Eleven Stickers combine to land one per pack. Fronts have fighters while backs go together to form a puzzle.

1993 Topps Street Fighter II does have one additional chase set. Holo-Foil cards are 1:18 packs, or approximately two per box. With just four cards on the checklist, they’re not overly tough pulls.

Today, this is one of the more expensive sets of early ’90s entertainment trading cards, especially after taking Marvel out of the equation. Simply, there’s not a lot of it out there. Unopened boxes run several hundred dollars. Complete sets rarely show up and when they do, they typically go for more than $100 for just the base set and stickers.

This isn’t the only set of mainstream Street Fighter II trading cards. In 1994, Upper Deck did a release for the movie starring Jean-Claude Van Damme.
