2004 Inkworks Alias Season 3 trading cards lacks a lot of the punch of the first two sets (impact wise — the cards themselves still have plenty of action). That said, it shows the franchise maturing and adding more depth.
The 81-card base set sticks with the all-foil format from the first two seasonal releases. A little more than half are dedicated to episode recaps. Subsets tackle characters and dig deeper into the show’s tech and the increasingly complex family issues.
Autographs and Pieceworks costume cards are both inserted one per box. While the list of signers lacks any major superstars, it still has some decent names worthy of attention. David Carradine and Vivica A. Fox were both timely inclusions due to the Kill Bill movies being released around the same time. For a lot of film buffs, David Cronenberg is a must-have card (and a cheap one at that). Other notables include Mia Maestro, Melissa George and Justin Theroux.
The Pieceworks checklist includes a lot more characters than previous Alias trading card releases. Rather than making most of the cards with pieces of Jennifer Garner’s wardrobe, they cover a broader mix. All are still central characters, though.
The rest of 2004 Inkworks Alias Season 3 is fairly standard fare for the company. There’s a nine-card foil puzzle, additional six-card insert set, three box loaders and a case topper.
