2004 Stellar Sports Illustrated Swimsuit is the card maker’s sophomore release covering one of the most famous magazines in the world. Overall, the approach is similar to the debut 2003 set, but there are some tweaks that improve some key elements.
2004 Stellar Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Checklist Details
Stellar sticks with a 100-card base set. More than a dozen models are included, each with multi-card runs on the checklist. Marisa Miller, Molly Sims, Bridget Hall and Petra Nemcova are among those in the set. Images for the first 98 cards are all previously unpublished. The final two cards, both checklists, have the Veronica Varekova cover.
Autographs, Memorabilia Cards and Other Inserts
Hobby boxes have three different premium inserts — one autograph and two different memorabilia cards. All three are 1:24 packs or one per box.
The Autographs checklist has eight signers and nine total cards, led by two from Miller. Unlike the 2003 set, these have different designs this time around so it’s easy to tell what’s pack-pulled and what may have been signed afterwards.
Eight Swimsuit Memorabilia cards have swatches from bathing suits worn during the magazine’s photo shoots.
Things get a little strange for the second memorabilia set. Bypassing clothing, ten Body Paint cards have smears of paint taken from the photo shoots.
Hall of Fame highlights some of the biggest Swimsuit Issue supermodels from the past. Elle Macpherson, Heidi Klum and Christie Brinkley are among those in the ten-card set.
Rounding out the 2004 Stellar Sports Illustrated Swimsuit checklist are ten Michelle Lombardo Fresh Face cards. She was the winner of an American Idol-esque competition, beating out nearly 3,000 other entrants. With her win, Lombardo earned a spot in the magazine (and the card set).
Cards for both the Fresh Face and Hall of Fame sets are 1:4 packs.
