With the success of their Serenity movie trading cards, Inkworks knew they were onto something. Although the show was dead, 2006 Inkworks Firefly trading cards came to be. While it doesn’t have quite the same depth as Serenity, there’s still quite a bit here for fans of the show (and a little some extra for those who like Mad Men).
The 2006 Inkworks Firefly base set has 72 cards. About half of that highlights the 15 episodes that made up the series. Key characters get a chunk at the start of the checklist. Other subsets look at the bigger picture of the show’s story as well as what happened on the other side of the camera.
Autographs are inserted one per 2006 Inkworks Firefly box. Although not quite as strong as Serenity, it does have many of the key names in the cast including Nathan Fillion, Morena Baccarin, Adam Baldwin, Gina Torres and Jewel Staite. There’s also Christina Hendricks who would go on to much greater fame thanks to her key role in Mad Men. Alan Tudyk and Summer Glau are the big names not on the list of signers.
With Firefly having been cancelled a couple of years before the set’s release, it shouldn’t be surprising that Inkworks wasn’t able to include any costume cards.
Firefly Forever is the product’s nine-card foil puzzle. There’s also the six-card The Battle of Serenity.
