1998 Comic Images South Park trading cards aren’t exactly fancy, but collectors don’t have a lot of options otherwise. Coming out early in the show’s run, cards offer a crude look at the characters and initial episodes with not much else going on. Still, being the only wide release the show has ever had, it’s a popular set today.
1998 Comic Images South Park Checklist Details
South Park‘s debut season makes up the set’s content. The 70-card base set leads off with a title card and 17 character cards, showcasing the likes of not only leads like Cartman, Stan, Kyle and Kenny but several of the supporting faces such as Chef, Pip and even Jesus. From there, most of the checklist gets into the first season episodes. Each gets a three card recap.
The design is simple. Fronts are full-bleed with a shot taken directly from the show. Backs have a write-up, done with the same font from the show, and a few small design elements. Cards are thicker than normal, done on 24 pt stock.
1998 Comic Images South Park trading cards have just one insert set, which revolves around one of the show’s most famous early running gags. The Many Deaths of Kenny Omnichrome show six of the character’s violent early demises. Landing 1:20 packs, collectors can expect one per box but still hold out hope for a second.
