1998 Dart Flipcards Gilligan’s Island trading cards arrived more than 30 years after the original three-hour tour. Offering a more modern — and colorful — take on the show following Topps’ 1965 look at the show, the set isn’t complex but for fans of the show, it’s fairly substantial.
1998 Dart Flipcards Gilligan’s Island Checklist Details
Card backs show that Dart trusted their audience. Rather than simply recapping scenes and storylines, they’re filled with facts and trivia about the show and its history. So even if you’ve watched every episode twice, there will likely be some tidbits you didn’t know about the show’s background.
Most fronts are full-bleed screen grabs and blurry ones at that. This includes character cards at the front of the checklist that use the opening credits. A handful of cards have black and white studio shots framed with a blue wave design. There’s also a card highlighting the short-lived Gilligan’s Planet Saturday morning cartoon from the early ’80s.
Packs have just one insert set. Six Lenticular cards flip between two images when tilted. These land 1:18 packs or approximately two per box.
For an additional $9.95, collectors could also mail away for a six Dream Sequence Prismatic cards. Images on these shiny cards come from the third season episode, “Lovey’s Secret Admirer” in which Mrs. Howell images herself in a Cinderella situation.
A total of 400 cases of 1988 Dart Flipcards Gilligan’s Island were produced. That works out to 4,800 boxes.
