1997 Fleer/SkyBox Marvel Premium QFX Checklist, Trading Cards Info

Art is a staple in Marvel trading cards. That should be a given. 1997 Fleer/SkyBox Marvel Premium QFX takes a different approach to art, combining original pieces with photographs. Basically, it’s Marvel heroes and villains IRL only they’re still their comic selves.

1997 Fleer/SkyBox Marvel Premium QFX Checklist Details

Future Marvel Editor-in-Chief Joe Quesada is the star of the set. He created original art of every card. Characters are drawn into the real world for the 72-card base set. Some are action-packed while others are more slice-of-life and caught in the calm between battles. Quesada shows that there’s something to seeing heroes hanging out downtown without an explosion taking place a block away.

Base cards have autographed versions as well. It’s worth noting that the signed cards found in packs have a flat matte finish instead of the glossy stock standard base cards have. Should you come across an autograph on a glossy card it would have been signed after the fact. Unfortunately, pack-inserted autographs don’t have any other distinguishing marks.

Other Inserts

1997 Fleer/SkyBox Marvel Premium QFX has two additional insert sets. LazerBlast cards have lots of intricate laser cuts. They’re several steps beyond more common die-cuts. Four cards are in the set with one landing approximately every nine packs.

Chromium and acetate combine in PhotoGraphix. The nine-card ClearChrome set again has an unusual and modern look. These are 1:6 packs, which makes them easier to pull than LazerBlast cards. However, with the larger checklist, individual PhotoGraphix cards aren’t quite as plentiful.

Without any scarce inserts on its checklist, 1997 Fleer/SkyBox Marvel Premium QFX prices have remained relatively stable, even as other Marvel sets hae soared. Compared to some other lines like Marvel Masterpieces and the various Marvel Fleer Ultra sets from the period, it could be argued this set is overlooked.
