2012 Rittenhouse Marvel Bronze Age trading cards cover the approximately 15-year span from 1970 to 1985. While not the early days when the rules of superheroes were established, the timeframe had its share of major storylines and character introductions. Collectors will find many of those here plus an assortment of inserts including a color sketch card in every box.
2012 Rittenhouse Marvel Bronze Age Checklist Details
The 81-card base set takes shape by breaking down key Bronze Age comics. Each card is dedicated to a single issue with panel art on the front and a description of the events, cover, publication date and additional trivia on the back. Wolverine’s debut, the Phoenix Saga and Secret Wars are just some of the major happenings covered here. Base cards are printed on cardboard stock, lending it a retro feel.
White Plastic parallels are available for all 81 cards. These land 1:3 packs.
Sketch cards are the most valuable inserts. Including special incentives, more than 130 artists contributed to these, each doing original art directly on the card. Standard for Rittenhouse, they’re more “art” than “sketch” with color and detail. Some boxes received randomly inserted multi-card sketch puzzles. Rather than breaking them up and making it virtually impossible for collectors to complete, these were kept together in the same box.
A dozen Bronze Embossed cards use foil and texture to create striking cards for key Bronze Age first appearances. These fall one per box.
Classic Heroes (nine cards, 1:12 packs) is a who’s who of all-time Marvel greats. A tenth card featuring the Silver Surfer is also available, but not in packs. The only way to get it was to redeem points from wrappers as a part of the Rittenhouse Rewards program.
Eighteen Poster Puzzle cards (1:8 packs) are basically split into two nine-card parts. The first half makes one double-sided puzzle of an imagined poster while the back half does the same with two additional themes.
2012 Rittenhouse Marvel Bronze Age has a print run of 7,000 boxes. Each has a numbered seal.
