2012 Cryptozoic The Guild Seasons 1-3 is a groundbreaking set. It’s not so much the content but rather the inspiration. This is the first set of mainstream trading cards based on an online series, preceding the Netflix revolution and what’s still to come as television shifts to streaming.
As for the product itself, it comes with a traditional set up and configuration. Autographs and costume cards are both one per box.
2012 Cryptozoic The Guild Seasons 1-3 Checklist Details
The base set has a 63-card checklist covering the key moments and storylines from the first three seasons (the back half of The Guild never got the trading card treatment). Given the source material and style of the web series, the image quality isn’t always quite as good as collectors might be used. Still, it fits.
The Autographs checklist is a big one with 24 different cards with some actors signing two cards — one for their character’s name and another for their online alter ego. Leading the way is the show’s star and creator, Felicia Day (she previously signed for 2003 Inkworks Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 7). Wil Wheaton is another name many collectors will recognize even if they didn’t watch The Guild. The checklist does a good job of covering the show’s central characters.
Just Wardrobe cards are a part of the product. These memorabilia cards all come with a costume swatch embedded in them.
Other inserts include Character Cards (six cards, 1:6 packs) and Vlog (nine cards, 1:6 packs).
