2013 Upper Deck Thor: The Dark World trading cards focus on the follow-up to the Marvel hero’s 2011 cinematic debut (and corresponding card set). The checklist here is potent but it’s largely centered around big stuff like autographs and memorabilia cards. That shows in the hobby box hits, which promise a pair of memorabilia cards and either an autograph or sketch card.

2013 Upper Deck Thor: The Dark World Checklist Details

The base set has 100 cards. But within that, are several subsets. The first 60 cards are basic plot synopsis stuff. However, don’t expect a deep dive from start to finish. Releasing around the same time the movie hit the big screen, there aren’t any major spoilers.

The subsets star with 14 Character cards. Concept Series shows some of the artwork that went into the planning for the film while Book of Yggdrasil dabbles in Thor lore. Thor’s Legacy adds a comic element with seven Movie Poster cards rounding out the checklist.

While not a full parallel set, Aether Variants are available for the first 60 cards. These are done on thick, clear acrylic material, giving off a very different look. Aether Variants have further Red parallels that are serial numbered to 10 copies each.

2013 Upper Deck Thor: The Dark World Autographs

Like a lot of the company’s early Marvel Cinematic Universe sets, the 2013 Upper Deck Thor: The Dark World autographs checklist is small but strong. Chris Hemsworth (Thor) and Tom Hiddleston (Loki) are the headliners. Shazam‘s Zachary Levi, Kat Dennings and Jaimie Alexander are among the other signers.

In addition to regular Actor Autographs, there are also Dual Autographs and Dark Materials Autographs that come with swatches of memorabilia.

A handful of comic creators also have autographs in 2013 Upper Deck Thor: The Dark World, including Stan Lee, Walt Simonson and Roy Thomas.

Memorabilia Cards and Other Insert

Memorabilia cards fall under the Dark Materials banner. Again, there are not a lot of characters. Variety with these comes with the number of swatch combinations. Dark Materials cards have anywhere from one to four pieces of material. There’s also a scarce patch card for Jane Foster, played by Natalie Portman.

Sketch cards come in two styles. First are standard sketch cards where artists have a lot of free reign in their Marvel art. Things get more defined with Character Sketch Cards. On these, the character is named and the artist has to go with that. These are also numbered so collectors could potentially go out and build a set.
