1993 Eclipse National Lampoon’s Loaded Weapon 1 is a largely forgotten set of trading cards for a largely forgotten film. But maybe — like the movie — it’s worthy of a second look. Although nothing fancy or particularly innovative, the straightforward release does have some early cards from some very prominent names.

At 110 total cards, on the surface there’s not a lot to this release. It does a good job recapping the film, which in itself is a spoof of cop movies and thrillers from the 1980s and early ’90s. Think The Naked Gun meets Basic Instinct meets Lethal Weapon. The comedy elements make for some fun visuals, particularly when you get the references that they’re making fun of.
The design is simple with fronts offering an image, the film’s logo and white borders. To that end, they’re as plain as can be. Backs have a little more in the design department with a bullet-filled illustration acting as a backdrop for some fairly detailed write-ups. It’s nothing groundbreaking either, but sometimes clean wins.
Where 1993 Eclipse National Lampoon’s Loaded Weapon 1 gets interesting is with its cast. Samuel L. Jackson and Emilio Estevez star. In both instances, it marks early trading card appearances. The set also includes the likes of Kathy Ireland, William Shatner, Tim Curry, Denise Richards, Denis Leary and Erik Estrada.
The only other card on the checklist is a promo card that’s labeled “PROTOTYPE” across the back. 1993 Eclipse National Lampoon’s Loaded Weapon 1 does not have any inserts.
