2002 Topps Simpsons Stickers and Gum takes a different approach than most of the show’s other sets of trading cards. As the name suggests, everything in the product is a sticker. But they’re also done in a trading card format, similar to Garbage Pail Kids. The product also has a piece of bygone hobby history — gum. And with that comes even more stickers.
2002 Topps Simpsons Stickers and Gum Checklist Overview
The main base set has 50 cards. While there’s a lot of Bart and a fair amount of Homer, some of the show’s other characters also appear. It’s not the same depth as other sets like the ones from SkyBox and Inkworks. But it’s not at the repetitive level of Topps’ 1990 Simpsons set, either. All of the stickers are kiss cut, giving them shapes should you decide to actually peel them.
Backs are a mix of puzzle pieces and themed gags like Bart writing on the chalkboard or making prank calls to Moe’s as well as ads for some of Springfield’s most famous locations.
Every pack has a Foil parallel. These are exactly the same as the base set only with the shinier stock. Stickers don’t have the kiss cut outlining, either.
It’s called 2002 Topps Simpsons Stickers and Gum for a reason. Every pack includes four pieces of wrapped bubble gum. Instead of sticks, they’re the chunk type like Bazooka Joe. Each is wrapped individually, keeping the cards safe from stains. There’s also an additional Mini Sticker wrapped around each piece. This set has a separate 50-card checklist, each with a different character.
This might be one of the more overlooked sets of Simpsons trading cards. Part of that is the lack of desirable chase cards. But that has kept things in check as far as prices go. That said, it’s not as common as some other sets on the secondary market.
