A lot of high-end artwork has graced the covers of Conan the Barbarian comics and magazines over the years. These covers are the focal point of 1988 Comic Images Savage Sword of Conan trading cards. It’s a simple set that has very little going on — outside of compiling a lot of iconic fantasy art.
1988 Comic Images Savage Sword of Conan Checklist Details
Consisting of 50 cards, the idea behind the base set is simple. They recreate covers. That’s it. A small white border surrounds it. No notable changes have been made so titles and headlines remain. If you look closely, on some the sides are a little cut off to make them fit properly with the trading card format.
Like many Comic Images sets around this time, additional information is kept to a minimum. Backs are puzzle pieces and don’t offer any additional information.
The cards themselves are not numbered other than the issue number on the front. However, the checklist that leads off the set puts everything in numerical order.
Despite the simplicity of the set, 1988 Comic Images Savage Sword of Conan trading cards carry strong values today. Part of that is being able to see the work of masters like Joe Jusko, Earl Norem and Joe Chiodo up close. Rarity is also a big driver as there’s not a lot of this set out there today.
