Sometimes, you have to go to the end to find the beginning. Such is the case with 1988 Comic Images Marvel Heroic Origins trading cards. The fourth and final installment of the card maker’s Marvel Universe run over a two-year span, it takes a look at how many key heroes and villains got their start.
Following in the footsteps of Marvel Universe, Colossal Conflicts and Wolverine, the checklist is a simple one. Spanning 90 cards, each highlights a character or team. Full color images are on the front done with comic art. The art is striking, although some stand out more than others.
Backs take a very basic approach with a trivia question and no other information. The larger trading card line’s lineage is noted on the back, labelling them as ‘Series IV.’ Like the previous three sets, cards have standalone numbering.
1988 Comic Images Marvel Heroic Origins is fairly tough to find today. Prices reflect this with sets selling for several hundred dollars and some singles topping $10 or even $20.
Although extremely scarce, packs include a sticker from a previous Comic Images Marvel sticker product in addition to the cards.
