1988 Pacific Eight Men Out Checklist and Trading Cards Details

Ad

1998 Pacific Eight Men Out is a rare combination of being both a set of movie trading cards and baseball cards. That’s not because there are actors pictured as baseball players. While there is a lot of that, there’s also a lot of history on the checklist that showcases the real athletes and other businessmen shown in the film.

Consisting of 110 cards, there are cards that focus on the characters, actors and athletes. Much of it recaps the film version of the 1919 Black Sox scandal that saw several players banned from Major League Baseball for throwing the World Series. To this end, it’s a traditional set of entertainment trading cards. Among these are some of the earliest trading cards for Eight Men Out‘s ensemble cast including Charlie Sheen and John Cusack.

Many cards on the checklist look to the real people the movie is based on. Both owners and players are included. 1988 Pacific Eight Men Out is actually a MLB-licensed product. It’s interesting in that it’s one of the few baseball card sets recognized by MLB that has “Shoeless” Joe Jackson in it.

1988 Pacific Eight Men Out is not a tough set to find. The product was available both in traditional pack and box form as well as a simply boxed factory set. In both forms, as well as singles, it’s relatively easy to find and still affordable. A few singles, primarily ones that mention the key actors, can command a premium. Card #10 featuring Charlie Sheen is particularly popular. But complete sets are generally still reasonably priced and may be a better value for collectors interested in more than just a card or two.
