1992 Comic Images Silver Surfer gives the cosmic superhero a set all to himself. Unlike most of the products from the manufacturer at the time, this one has a gimmick beyond just the character. Every card is done on flashy “Galaxy Prism” stock, making an already colorful set even buiser.

Consisting of 72 cards, the set highlights the Silver Surfer’s origins as well as some major moments for the character. Some friends and enemies also appear in the set.
Cards all have edge-to-edge artwork with no additional text or design attributes on the front. Each uses comic art. Then there’s the gimmick of the prism stock. A circular pattern repeats throughout the background on every card. It’s as though every card is a chase card — but they’re not. That’s the way they all are in this set. It’s a big change from the plain stock and minimalist designs used in virtually every other Comic Images Marvel set from the late 1980s and early ’90s.
Backs also have quite a bit going on. Grey borders lead into a celestial background image in one corner and the Silver Surfer title splashed across the top. Content comes in the form of a caption headline, writeup and a small second image done in black and white.
1992 Comic Images Silver Surfer has no additional insert cards.
Like a lot of Marvel sets from the era, prices have risen in recent years. For a long time, it was extremely affordable, even with the upgraded card stock. A healthy print run has ensured it has remained somewhat readily available as boxes, sets and singles still today.
