1990 Comic Images Captain America is a trading card tribute of sorts to the iconic Marvel hero. The small and very simple release looks into his past and moves through several decades. However, don’t expect much of a history lesson. In fact, don’t expect one at all.
The set features 45 base cards. The image on the front is a recreation of various comic covers over the years and decades. Most are from the Captain America run, although there are a few Tales of Suspense covers mixed in as well.
The design is simple with a white outer border and a black inner frame. Black and white shields flank both sides of the caption, which is simple the comic and issue.
If you’re expecting the backs to recap the featured comics, they don’t. Instead they’re basic puzzle pieces. As a result, there’s no real information on Cap’ or the history of his namesake comic. Sure, there’s some iconic art, but it’s recreations.
The cards themselves don’t actually have a card number. However, the set’s checklist does assign them.
Rounding out the set, like other sets of Marvel trading cards by Comic Images at the time, there’s a header card as well. These were included one per pack and have nothing on the back.
