One of the major risks about committing to a set of cards for a movie is that the card maker might not know how bad it is until it’s too late. Such is the case with 2000 Upper Deck Battlefield Earth trading cards. And while the film is widely seen as a stinker of epic proportions, there are some strong cards on the checklist.
Not so much in the base set, though. Featuring 90 cards, it’s a literal reminder of the badness of John Travolta and company marching around as gruff aliens.
There are autographs though. They’re tough to find, limited to 200 copies each. But all of the signers are significant: Travolta, Forest Whitaker and Barry Pepper. Autographs are only available in six-card hobby packs.
Also available in hobby packs are four different PowerDeck cards. These are actually CD-ROMs with content from the movie loaded on them. Upper Deck was experimenting with the concept at the time with their various sports licenses.
