1992 Comic Images Savage Dragon gives Erik Larsen’s creation its first full set of trading cards. Overall, it’s not a complex release. That said, there is some chase content and today, it makes for an affordable throwback to the comic’s early days.
1992 Comic Images Savage Dragon Checklist Details
The base set consists of 90 cards. It’s simply structured with full-bleed fronts that showcase the comic’s characters and some of the action. Cards 10-18 are an exception, going together to form a nine-card puzzle, similar to a splash page from a comic.
The green backs go beyond just recapping what’s on the front. They also include some additional notes on the book’s creation and some deeper insight into characters.
Six Prism cards are the lone inserts in the product. Outside of a disclaimer on the box that there’s between zero and three per box, official odds weren’t released. These cards have a shard-like background added to them, giving them some added pop.
The product’s promo card has standard and Prism versions as well.
1992 Comic Images Savage Dragon remains very affordable and available today. It came out at a time when trading cards were peaking but print runs were still on the high side for most releases. And while a cornerstone character from Image Comics’ earliest days, Savage Dragon never enjoyed the same mainstream success as some others like Spawn.
