2011 Rittenhouse Marvel Universe trading cards dive into some of the publisher’s biggest storylines of all-time. More than that, it’s another Rittenhouse release that stresses quality sketch cards and a variety of inserts. As a result, it’s a release that has held up well in the years since its release.
2011 Rittenhouse Marvel Universe Checklist Details
The 90-card base set is broken down to showcase ten different story arcs — the ones that span multiple issues and, often, several comic books. Starting with the Korvac Saga of 1978 and running through 2011’s Fear Itself, there are plenty of big events covered in the set. Putting a different spin on things, each nine-card section doubles as a puzzle, showing highlights across each piece. Needless to say, it’s a set that works best inside a binder with pages.
All 90 cards also have acetate parallels, giving them a clear plastic appearance and feel. These land one in three packs.
Sketch Cards and Other Inserts
Full-color Sketch Cards are the biggest chase in 2011 Rittenhouse Marvel Universe. More than 130 artists participated in the set. While most boxes have the promised sketch card, there are also hot boxes that have full multi-card sketch puzzles.
Other special sketch cards came as case incentives. Those who ordered six cases got a multi-character sketch from Anthony Tan. The nine case incentive is a set of three matching cards by Jim Kyle, one with a pencil sketch followed by an inked pieces then the final color work.
Artist Draft (nine cards, 1:8 packs) are double-sided cards. The front shows an early drawing of a cover while the back has the finished piece.
Other inserts include Marvel Originals (nine cards, 1:12 packs) and Ultimate Heroes (nine cards, 1:24 packs). The latter set actually has ten cards, although the final one on the checklist isn’t in packs. Instead it was only available by redeeming points found on Rittenhouse wrappers through the company’s Rewards program.
2011 Rittenhouse Marvel Universe has a production run of 8,000 boxes, each with an individually numbered seal.
