2014 Cryptozoic Supernatural Seasons 1-3 trading cards brought the popular television show back to the hobby. Rather than covering new ground beyond what the now-defunct Inkworks started several years earlier, Cryptozoic went back to the beginning. While there are some similarities, this set stands on its own with a different look, condensed feel and solid autograph lineup (although, it’s also one of the product’s disappointments).
2014 Cryptozoic Supernatural Seasons 1-3 Checklist Details
The 72-card base set takes a broad strokes approach to the show’s first three seasons under the banner “Join the Hunt.” While key moments and storylines are touched upon, specific episodes are not. By condensing so much into one set, it’s not as deep as Inkworks’ releases that target individual seasons. But with the overlap, that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
All 72 cards have three levels of parallels: Mega Moon Lava, which can be spotted by their patterned foil background, Silver (/25) and Gold (/10).
2014 Cryptozoic Supernatural Seasons 1-3 Autographs
Boxes of 2014 Cryptozoic Supernatural Seasons 1-3 come with both an autograph and a memorabilia card.
The list of signers is extensive, totalling 20 people. As far as key cast go, Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Jim Beaver are among the keys. There are also several notable guests like Linda Blair and The Walking Dead‘s Lauren Cohan.
The most notorious card in the product is the Katie Cassidy autograph. Copies that were inserted into packs weren’t actually signed by the Arrow actress. Rather, a rubber stamp was used. As soon as Cryptozoic got word, they quickly jumped into action and fixed the situation, getting a new batch of cards to the actress and ensuring they were signed properly.
Stamp versions all have the exact same signature. However, an easier way to spot them is with the ink. Stamp copies show beading and inconsistency with how it sits on the card. Authentic signatures flow more naturally.
Despite several strong names, the show’s two leads Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki are not among them. Cryptozoic initially advertised their autographs would be in the set but it ultimately wasn’t meant to be. Both do have signed cards in earlier Inkworks sets.
Memorabilia Cards and Other Inserts
Twenty different Wardrobe cards are also available in packs. These have swatches from costumes worn on the show. The majority of these of from Sam and Dean.
Six additional Dual Wardrobe cards are also available including one that’s exclusive to packs sold at Hot Topic.
Highlighting the other inserts are nine Character Bios that are done with a shadow box layout. This makes for a multi-layered look that leans more on the premium side.
Winchester Brothers and Locations round out the 2014 Cryptozoic Supernatural Seasons 1-3 checklist. Both of these have the same levels of parallels as the base set.
