Over the years, Dorothy and the Yellow Brick Road have been featured in several sets of trading cards. 1996 DuoCards Wizard of Oz brings the film into the modern hobby. It’s still a fairly simple release, but there are some twists that make it more than just a standard base set.
1996 DuoCards Wizard of Oz Checklist Details
While it’s not just a base set when you look at the release as a whole, that’s still a big part. Spanning 72 cards, it’s a recap of the movie with lots of classic images, scenes and characters.
Besides the full-bleed photo on the front, the only addition to the design is the film’s name written in colored foil (there’s one of those small modern twists).
Backs go far beyond just retelling the film’s story yet again. There are lots of tidbits about the production, comparisons to the original novel and trivia about the actors.
Six Chromium cards add a chase element to the set. Five of them highlight different types of posters used to help promote the movie. The final card offers a metallic close-up of Dorothy’s ruby slippers.
