The commercial machine was working hard for An American Tail: Fievel Goes West when it arrived in theatres in 1991. Pizza Hut was on board. So was Universal Studios. For collectors, there was 1991 Impel An American Tail: Fievel Goes West trading cards. The set isn’t overly complex and there’s still lots of it out there, but it’s one of the lasting pieces of merch that’s still around today
Diving into the film, production and more, the checklist is actually pretty deep. Spanning 150 cards, it’s divided into a handful of subsets. Things lead off with more than a dozen character cards. The largest section of the set recaps the animated sequel’s story. This is followed by a slightly abbreviated look at the original film, which didn’t get trading cards at the time of its original release. The checklist rounds out with some production cards and tips from Fievel.
1991 Impel An American Tail: Fievel Goes West has one insert collection — Holograms. Similar to Impel’s Marvel Universe Holograms at the time, they’re not the best use of the technology and somewhat flat. Still, they’re a change of pace and something to hunt for.
Even today, there’s no shortage of this set out there. Boxes are still readily available and cheap. Singles and sets are also attainable at virtually every price point.
