Is it a basketball card set or an entertainment set? Why not both? 1994 SkyBox Blue Chips trading cards are based on the movie. However, with much of the checklist occupied by Shaquille O’Neal and Anfernee Hardaway, there’s plenty of crossover appeal as well.
1994 SkyBox Blue Chips Checklist Details
The 90-card base set is primarily focused of summarizing the movie, although it does offer some space for looks behind-the-scenes. When said movie stars one of the most popular basketball players on the planet at the time, expect to find them heavily featured. That’s exactly the case with Shaquille O’Neal. While not on every card, he is on a lot of them. His teammate both on the screen and with the Orlando Magic, Anfernee Hardaway also appears on his share of cards.
Nick Nolte, Ed O’Neill and Battlestar Galactica‘s Mary McDonnell are among the others who appear in the set.
Packs have just one insert set available in packs, six Foil Stamped cards. Each is serial numbered to just 12,500 copies. The checklist for these breaks down to two cards each for Neon Boudeaux (O’Neal), Butch McCrae (Hardaway) and Ricky Roe (Matt Nover).
A special SP foil card was available through a mail-away offer. This one has 25,000 copies and has O’Neal dunking.
1994 SkyBox Blue Chips trading cards are not hard to find. And even with its sports cards star power, it’s still very affordable.
