1994 SkyBox Star Trek: The Next Generation Season 1 isn’t the first set of trading cards to feature the show. However, it is the first to go deep into a single season. In the process, it kicked off a longer, multi-year run for the spinoff that offered continuity in both the base set and its inserts.

The 108-card base set accomplishes a few things. For starters, there’s a nine-card Mission Chronology subset that acts as a timeline for the season as things happened. From there, every episode gets a recap spread over three cards. This offers up a good amount of depth to cover key moments and developments. Profiles of Captain Picard and Data are the other major focus of the set.
Over the next several years as SkyBox worked through other seasons of The Next Generation, this formula continued.
Three additional insert sets compliment the 1994 SkyBox Star Trek: The Next Generation Season 1 checklist, all of which carried over to future seasonal releases.
Klingons looks at the lore of the iconic species. Starting with three cards, these are 1:24 packs. It’s the same makeup for Foil Embossed Characters. The numbering for both of these insert sets is joined with Klingons going from #SP1 to #SP3. Foil embossed cards pick up at #SP4.
The toughest cards in the product are two Holograms. These combine to land 1:180 packs and offer more Picard and Data content.
