2009 Rittenhouse X-Men Origins: Wolverine marked the first spin-off for the franchise to focus on a single character. And while the set was never weak, it has gotten stronger over time thanks to the big cards remaining big and a couple reaching new heights.
The 72-card base set isn’t overly inspiring. It’s most focused on the movie’s story, although there are a few Behind-the-Scenes cards at the end of the checklist.
Autographs and sketch cards combine to land two per box. Hugh Jackman is at the top of virtually every set he signs for. This one is no different, although there are a couple of big-name signers where, to date, this is the only place to find them.
With Deadpool emerging as a top comic movie, the Ryan Reynolds is worthy of a lot of attention. The Deadpool role in this movie isn’t very significant but the fact that Reynolds was able to parlay it into his own movie ensures its long-term status as a major movie autograph card. The fact that Deadpool is a lot edgier and less family-friendly will likely mean that it is less likely to see a set of its own no matter how big the box office.
Other notable 2009 Rittenhouse X-Men Origins: Wolverine autographs include Liev Schreiber and Taylor Kitsch of Friday Night Lights fame. A second Jackman autograph was offered separately by Rittenhouse. It’s limited to just 99 copies.
Casting Call (nine cards, 1:8 packs) center on the characters and the stars who played them. Other basic inserts spotlight the comic book version of Wolverine. These include Wolverine Archives and Classic Confrontations.
