Life might indeed be like a box of chocolates, but with 1995 Hershey Canada Forrest Gump, trading card collectors knew exactly what they were going to get. And it wasn’t Tom Hanks or any of the other film’s stars.
1995 Hershey Canada Forrest Gump Checklist Details
A promo set that coincided with the VHS release of the movie, the checklist has just six cards. Subtitled “Wit and Wisdom,” each highlights a famous quote from the movie along with an illustration of what it’s connected to. However, these images are of objects and places, not actual scenes from the film or the people in it. So you get a house, a feather and a park bench rather than Forrest Gump, Lieutenant Dan or Jenny.
Backs give a little bit of insight into the object and how it first into the movie. There’s also an add for different Hershey chocolate products sold in Canada like Oh Henry, Reese Peanut Butter Cups and Pot of Gold — a box of chocolates that lives up to its billing as being shrouded in mystery.
1995 Hershey Canada Forrest Gump trading cards are smaller than traditionally sized cards, coming in at 2 1/8 by 3 inches.
They weren’t available as packs or even with mystery packaging. Instead, they were out in the open as part of a display and people could grab the cards they wanted. It was expected there’d be a qualifying purchase involved but the likelihood of this being monitored was slim.
Due to their Canadian distribution, this isn’t an overly common set. However, they are out there and extremely affordable.
