Tank Girl isn’t a movie that everyone has seen. For those who have it’s like a secret swimming hole that the locals don’t want word to get out on. It’s a secret club. But with the release of the 1995 Comic Images Tank Girl trading cards, maybe it wasn’t supposed to be.
The base set has 90 cards. The design is pretty typical of most Comic Images sets. Fronts are a full-bleed photo without any text. No caption, no logo — nothing. Backs have a cropped version of the same image with a writeup. There aren’t any embellishments of any kind so it’s good for those who want lots of images but probably of little use for those who want something more. For some, it might be worth noting that this set was the first to include Naomi Watts who would go on to become both a critical and box office star several years later.
The top insert is a Lori Petty autograph. She stars as Tank Girl. The card is limited to 500 copies and might have some carryover appeal to those who are fans of A League of Their Own. Petty played Kit Keller, the young sister to Genna Davis’ Dottie.
The single-card medallion insert is serial numbered on the back, but it doesn’t say how many copies were printed.
The kangaroo-like Rippers are featured in a three-card chase set with one landing in every box. The comic is represented in the MagnaChrome set (1:16 packs).
